About the Event

Why do Skills Matter? Because it is a significant – if not the most significant – policy area that can yield results in solving a multitude of issues in the UK, from population health, to productivity, to economic growth, and many more. The Labour Government’s emphasis on having a mission-driven approach fully aligns with the scope and type of interventions we feel are needed in the Skills agenda. We are bringing together an expert panel to discuss and make recommendations that can have a positive impact in policy development over the term of this Government, and beyond.

Key talking points

  • What are the biggest barriers to skills attainment, including re-skilling and up-skilling?
  • Is there an optimal strategy for skills development, across the nation?
  • How can Skills England succeed in its mission?

Speakers

  • Patrick Craven, Director of Policy, Strategic Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement, City & Guilds
  • Prof. René Koglbauer, Dean of Lifelong Learning and Professional Practice, Newcastle University
  • Philippa Mariani, Chief Executive, Think Ahead
  • Andy Forbes, Executive Director, LEI (Moderator)
