In conversation with Stephen Evans (CEO, Learning and Work Institute)

The discussion will centre around two main strands of Stephen’s work at the Learning and Work Institute: the new drive by the DWP to reduce NEETs through a Youth Guarantee programme, and the LWI’s long-standing focus on the decline of Adult participation in learning.

In relation to the Youth Guarantee we’ll be discussing what lessons can be learned from previous similar schemes (E.g. YTS), what research tells us about the barriers to engaging with NEETs, and what Stephen believes will be the key to success. 

On adult participation in learning we’ll look at what the latest LWI survey evidence  is showing and what policies are needed to get adults the education and training they need to make career progress and improve their earnings.

Is the rise in NEETs linked to the decline in Adult learning? Are they symptoms of our failure to embrace a vision of lifelong learning?
