Douglas was QAA’s Chief Executive from October 2015 to December 2021. His work has included leading the transformation of QAA and its contribution to changes to the policy, regulatory and quality landscape across the UK, and QAA's role in supporting higher education adapt to the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Douglas joined QAA in 2002 and was previously Director of Resources, Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary. In October 2019, Douglas was appointed to the Board of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and in April 2021 elected as the President of ENQA. He also sits on the Board of Qualifications Wales.
