Birkbeck, University of London

Birkbeck, University of London has a long track record of educating working Londoners and helping people access higher education at any point in their lives. Students at Birkbeck experience an education that acknowledges that life exists beyond the four walls of a university.

Classes are held in the evening which gives students the freedom to use the daytime for other commitments, such as working, interning or volunteering. With the Birkbeck campus located in Bloomsbury, central London, students have numerous opportunities in a global city. This, and Birkbeck’s global reputation for high quality research and teaching, attracts a diverse range of people from over 120 countries, with students ranging from 18 to 80 year’s old.

As well as providing full-time courses, the College offers flexible short and part-time higher education courses, enabling students to reskill or upskill throughout their career at a pace that suits them. In 2020, Birkbeck partnered with the University of London to offer a range of courses online, expanding the opportunities to learn flexibly worldwide. Students at Birkbeck graduate with prestigious University of London degrees, and in 2020, Birkbeck celebrated 100 years as part of the University of London.

The College is also committed to improving the access and success of non-traditional students, and Birkbeck’s mission, ‘creating opportunity for anybody to the advantage of everybody’, is championed by its Access and Engagement team. Birkbeck now looks forward to celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2023 by reflecting on its history of transforming lives and looking to the future.
